New Position, Vice Chair of the Democratic Caucus

News from the House

In the past five months since her election, House Speaker Adrienne Jones has taken a steadfast and thoughtful approach to laying the foundation for her time as Speaker of the House of Delegates. She recently announced new leadership appointments. I am pleased to report that Speaker Jones has appointed me as Vice Chairman of the Democratic Caucus. I am grateful to the Speaker and excited about this new opportunity to serve my fellow delegates and the people of Maryland.

Speaker Jones has also instituted two initiatives to make it easier for the public to participate in the legislative process. Video streaming of House floor proceedings will be piloted in 2020 and citizens will be able to sign up to testify and submit testimony online.

This fall much collaboration is occurring between delegates of both parties as legislation is considered for introduction in the January 2020 legislative session. Your early chance to testify on proposed Howard County local bills is Tuesday, November 19th at 7 p.m. at the George Howard Building. On statewide bills, Speaker Jones is encouraging a robust discussion of many topics, but particularly the recommendations of the Kirwan Commission to improve our schools across the state.
